This site is useful to teachers because it gives the names of many
successful African Americans. Not only does it give names of successful
African Americans, but it also tells where they are now and how they got to
where they are. This list contains names of successful educators all the way
to successful athletes. This site could be used for many things in the
classroom. A teacher could go to this site for information on African
Americans and their many accomplishments.
http://www.health.org/mlk/mlk98/biog.htm#education

This site is very useful to future or current teachers. The site gives
examples of court cases, which prompted the civil rights movement for
African Americans. This site gives ideas of class work students can do to
learn more about African Americans, and how they fought to get treated the
way they should have been treated anyway. One example the site gives is to
write an essay about one of the court cases given on the site or maybe even
finding a new case that not many people have heard of and writing an essay
on that to share with the class.
http://www.health.org/mlk/mlk98/teach.htm

This site tells how Black History Month all began. It states that the man
who started it was Carter G. Woodson. This site is important because it
gives information that teachers could share with their class about Black
History Month. The site also gives lists of books (for children and adults)
about why they have Black History Month and how it all began. Teachers could
read these books to their students for a lesson on this certain month.

This site will help teachers when teaching slavery in social studies class.
The site tells about the Juneteenth celebration where African-Americans
celebrates their freedom. On this site teachers can find information that
explains how slavery was abolished and how the African-Americans
reestablished their lives. They had to change everything they ever had known
and make a whole new life for themselves.
http://www.juneteenth.com/

This site is good for studying the Civil War. It tells about the
fifty-fourth infantry in Massachusetts, which was one of the first African
American infantries organized in the northern states. This site would be
great for teaching a unit on the Civil War. It gives lists of the men who
were in the infantry and their name lead to other sites, which tell about
the roles they played in the infantry and in the war.
http://extlab1.entnem.ufl.edu/olustee/54th_MS_inf.html

This site is good for kids and teachers. It tells about Harriet Tubman and
the Underground Railroad. Not only does it have historical facts, but it
also has worksheets for quizzes and crossword puzzles for children to do
while studying this certain event in American history. This site also
contains a timeline of events that occurred during this time.
http://www2.lhric.org/pocantico/tubman/tubman.html

This site is a map of Africa and when you press on a certain place it brings
up the demographics of the place at the bottom of the map. Also, for those
places that received their independence it gives the date and from whom they
received their independence. It also gives the names of the people who hold
office in the place you choose to look into. This is very interesting and
could be used for many different things in the classroom.
http://www.hmnet.com/africa/1africa.html

A class of third graders designed this site, and it contains biographies on
many famous African American Hero's. It is a great site for children in the
classroom to find out more about famous African Americans. Not only would it
be easy for them to read, but they could comprehend it better as well.
http://marin.k12.ca.us/~parkweb/african_american/a_a.html

This site has autobiographies and biographies by and about famous African
American men and women. Also, there are letters by African Americans about
things they have gone through in their lives as well as narratives by
slaves. This site would be excellent for students and teachers to do
research on African Americans for a lesson or just for their own personal
interest. This site was very interesting.
