African-American Inventors of Our Times - African-Americans are still underrepresented in technology and the sciences; but great progress has been made since the 1960s, especially in the realm of higher education. Today, many universities, such as U. Cal. Berkeley and Purdue, have programs which
aid and encourage minorities to become involved in science and invention.

Claude Harvard - It's the ones we don't hear about who are the greats - If
he had choked a coach, showed up in a wedding dress to marry himself,
fathered children by six or seven women whose names he could barely remember
or allegedly urinated in front of some restaurant patrons, you'd know all
about Claude Harvard. But the 88-year-old Highland Parker never slam-dunked
or stuffed the ball on a basketball court or caught a Hail Mary pass with
seconds to score. He was just the genius behind some of the Ford Motor Co.'s
manufacturing success. In all, the company patented 29 of Harvard's inventions.
