Kendall Whaling Museum: Heroes in the Ships
African Americans in the Whaling Industry, From Colonial times to the twentieth century, men of African ancestry were active in New England's whaling industry as sailors, blacksmiths, shipbuilders, officers, & owners. By the 1840s, Black sailors constituted about one-sixth of the labor force; and by 1900, African Americans and Cape Verdeans had become a majority.

Tubman African American Museum
The Tubman African American Museum, Georgia's largest African American museum, was founded in 1981 by a diverse coalition of people dedicated to making Macon, Georgia a better and more caring community. Today, the Tubman is one of Macon's most popular tourist attractions with over 60,000 visitors a year. The Museum is named in honor of Harriet Tubman, but is dedicated to educating people about all aspect of African American art, history and culture.

The Henrietta Marie: A slave ship on traveling display from the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. The Henrietta Marie sank near Key West in 1701 after delivering a consignment of African captives to the island of Jamaica. These two essays thoughtfully explore the history of the ship and the nature of slavery. "Speak her name and gently touch the souls of our ancestors."

Over 2.5 million African-American men registered for the draft, and black women also volunteered in large numbers. While serving in the Army, Army Air Forces, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, they experienced discrimination and segregation but met the challenge and persevered. They served their
country with distinction, made valuable contributions to the war effort, and earned high praises and commendations for their struggles and sacrifices.

Chattanooga African American Museum

Boston African American National Historic Site
Located in the heart of Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood, the site includes 15 pre-Civil War structures relating to the history of Boston's 19th century African-American community, including: the African Meeting House, the oldest standing African-American church in the United States. The sites are linked by the 1.6 mile (2.5 km) Black Heritage Trail. Augustus Saint-Gaudens', memorial to Robert Gould Shaw and the African-American Massachusetts 54th Regiment, stands on the trail.

The Ile Ife Museum
For many years a copy of the Queen Mother gazed out over North Philadelphia from atop the Ile Ife Museum toward William Penn atop City Hall. For over 15 years between 1972 and 1988 the Ile Ife Museum was a mecca for African and African American art, housing a world class collection of West African materials as well as the work of local artists.
